Saly Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Saly lives in a culture controlled by men but a home dominated by women. Her widowed mom put Saly and her sisters through school by selling porridge in the street and now Saly wants to re-pay her with a comfortable retirement.

Though she fears cronyism will limit the value of her university degree Saly doesn’t think her gender will hold her back. It may even help her.
